Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide high-quality, compassionate care in the Children’s Operating Room (OR), a six-suite unit performing 20–25 surgical cases per day. The RN will deliver population-appropriate perioperative care across multiple specialties including Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial, Burns, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, and Dental Surgery. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the RN will coordinate and deliver patient care utilizing the nursing process and contribute to unit goals and continuous quality improvement.

Work Schedule:
- Shift: Days – 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- FTE: 0.9 (36 hours per week)
- On-Call Requirement: 1 call shift per week (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: 2 weekend call shifts per 6 weeks (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work Labor Day if needed

- Technology: Utilizes state-of-the-art surgical equipment, supporting continuous learning

- Performs comprehensive assessments and synthesizes data to guide care
- Demonstrates competence in delivering age-appropriate and developmentally suitable care
- Implements and revises individualized care plans based on patient condition
- Participates in bedside testing and documentation of care in accordance with protocols
- Ensures patient safety and confidentiality at all times.
- Engages with interdisciplinary teams for coordinated care planning
- Supports patient and family engagement and education
- Promotes physician satisfaction by assisting surgical teams effectively
Professional Development & Leadership:
- Participates in unit-based education and training programs

Administrative and Compliance Responsibilities:

- Demonstrates consistent attendance, professionalism, and reliability
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Pediatric OR nursing experience – Required
- Ability to work in fast-paced, multi-specialty surgical environment
- Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and clinical decision-making skills
- Ability to adapt care based on cultural, developmental, and psychosocial needs
- Familiarity with hospital documentation systems and communication tools
Education:

Required:
- Nursing Diploma; OR
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited school

Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited institution
Experience:

Required:
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience

Preferred:
- Pediatric Operating Room experience highly preferred
Licenses, Certifications & Registrations:

Required:
- Current RN license (State of North Carolina)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
