Charge nurses enjoy a leadership position within their department. They're responsible for overseeing other nurses, and handle both administrative and clinical tasks. Most charge nurses are registered nurses (RNs) who have continued their education through to a bachelor's or master's degree.

A typical day in the life of a charge nurse might include:
• Preparing schedules for the nurses in their department
• Checking supplies and ordering additional medication and clinical products
• Monitoring patient discharges to ensure departing patients are satisfied and well-cared for
• Delegating essential clinical tasks.
