Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse I assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing care, utilizing the nursing process in accordance with hospital standards and unit policies/procedures for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient functional status.
Job Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process to care for patients.
- Assesses, organizes, and completes patient care with consideration for patient age, cultural and psychosocial factors.
- Documents steps of the nursing process.
- Utilizes proper medical terminology.
- Addresses problems and progress toward goals.
- Facilitates patient discharge through timely, appropriate referrals and utilization of patient education resources, suitable to patient age and cultural/psychosocial factors.
- Collaborates with other disciplines as appropriate.
- Supports unit/hospital goals through PI and educational activities as evidenced by attending in-services, meeting unit education standards, and completing variance reports.
Decision Making:
- Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationships:
- Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise).
- Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise).
- Has input on performance evaluations but does not prepare or give.
- Works directly with patients and/or customers.
- Works with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.
- Works with external customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction.

Education:
Required Education:
- Has completed the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing and holds or is entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom.
Certifications & Licensure:
Required:
- Valid multi-state or State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse License.
- BLS.
- ACLS.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Zero (0) – six (6) months of related experience.
- Working knowledge of general disease state management processes, bio-psychosocial model, and clinical pathways.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work in an effective and efficient manner.
- Ability to be detail oriented as required in the examination of clinical and numerical data.

Experience/Certification Requirements:
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in Cardiovascular ICU care setting.
- Strong open heart surgery recovery experience is a must.
- Experience with Mechanical Circulatory Support (Impella, IABP, ECMO, durable LVAD).
- Preferred ICU.
Unit Information:
- 18-bed CICU that serves cardiovascular surgery, mechanical circulatory support, and cardiac critical care.
- Average daily census: 17.
- RN-to-patient ratio: 1:1 or 1:2.
- Unit Goals: Multidisciplinary approach to post-op surgical care, along with Cardiac Intensivist management of MCS device patients. Provide high-quality patient care to critically ill cardiovascular and cardiogenic shock patients.

Assessment Methods / Processes:
- Care provided includes ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, vasoactive drip titration, Impella management, IABP management, CRRT, post cardiotomy recovery, RN-led ECMO management.
- Strong knowledge and critical care thinking skills related to hemodynamic monitoring.
- Critical care assessment skills including I&O, vital signs, hemodynamics.
- High level of attention to detail related to infection prevention metrics (CAUTI/CLABSI prevention) and quality metrics (skin breakdown prevention, falls prevention).
Support Services:
- Multidisciplinary team includes nursing, pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical/occupational therapy, lab services, Critical Care APP/MD team, CV surgery APP/surgical team, case management, social work, and palliative care.
