Duration: 3 Months+ (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: NIGHTS – 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Schedule: Block Schedule (Fri–Sun or Sat–Mon), every other weekend required
Contract Type: Travel/Contract

Unit: Behavioral Health / Psychiatry
Total Beds: 72 (across 5 specialized units)
Position Summary:
We are seeking experienced psychiatric nurses to join our multidisciplinary team in providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients across the lifespan—from children (as young as 5 years old) to geriatric adults—in our acute psychiatric facility. This role requires strong psychiatric nursing skills, the ability to manage high-acuity situations, and a commitment to patient safety and therapeutic care.

Position Summary:

This role requires strong psychiatric nursing skills, the ability to manage high-acuity situations, and a commitment to patient safety and therapeutic care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to adult and pediatric psychiatric patients
- Monitor, assess, and document patient conditions
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Collaborate with Behavioral Health Associates (BHAs), house supervisors, and other staff to ensure safety and therapeutic milieu
- Participate in de-escalation and behavioral crisis interventions (CPI techniques)
- Float within units as needed (no floating to other facilities)
- Work independently and effectively in a high-volume environment with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:12
Facility Details:
- Facility Type: Acute Psychiatric Hospital
- Units: 5 specialized behavioral health units
- Patients: Voluntary and involuntary, including incarcerated individuals
- Security: No on-site security; staff must be comfortable managing without it
- Support Team: House Supervisor (always present), BHAs, RNs
Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of direct psychiatric and acute care experience
- Active RN license in the state of Wisconsin (or compact license if applicable)
- CPI certification (Crisis Prevention Intervention) – Provided onsite during orientation
- Must pass a Wisconsin Caregiver Background Check (wet signature required; must be completed onsite)
- Ability to commit to block scheduling (no alterations permitted)
- Must be comfortable with physical restraints (chemical restraints not used)
Additional Information:
- Dress Code: Solid-color scrubs – maroon, grey, navy blue, or black
- Charting System: [Insert if known, e.g., Epic, Cerner, etc.]
- Visitor Policy: Limited hours in the evening
- Parking: Onsite available
- Orientation: Details provided upon onboarding
- Travel Experience: Not required
