The Registered Nurse is a practitioner who is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for an identified group of patients in an inpatient environment. This individual demonstrates competency in delivery of care to a primarily adult population. The Staff RN-Inpatient job description has incorporated essential functions which are adapted from the ANA Nursing: Product and Standards of Practice, 2nd Edition (2010).
Job Summary: -Plans, organizes, coordinates and provides direct nursing care for an identified group of patients according to specific standards. -Demonstrates ability to correctly perform head to toe physical assessment. -Completes admission data base per policy. -Performs and documents routine assessments per policy. -Initiates, reviews, and updates plan of care. -Collaborates with other health team members in the care of the patient and/or family. -Participates in discharge/transfer planning. -Documents accurately, timely, and completely avoids unacceptable abbreviations and uses proper format when taking verbal orders and when signing off. -Understands and utilizes hospital and unit specific policies including the Wisconsin Nurse practice Act in delivering safe patient care orders. -Aware of and adheres to patient safety standards. -Is aware of JCAHO standards and utilizes them in the delivery of safe patient care. -Response to and participates in unpredictable (emergency) situations quickly, calmly, and safely. -Evaluates effectiveness of plan of care. -Communicates unmet needs or undesired effects of treatment to physician. -Involved in HFM committees. -Belongs to professional organizations. -Continuing education beyond the mandatory. -Functions as preceptor and/or charge nurse when appropriate. -Participates in network/community programs Critical Care Unit.

Required Skills & Experience: -Excellent customer service, critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills. -Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of a minimum of two years education at an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Preferred Skills & Experience: -One year experience in Medical Surgical nursing.

Required Education: -Associate s degree in nursing. Preferred Education: -Bachelor s degree in nursing. Required Certifications & Licensure: -Requires current state of Wisconsin Registered Nurse License or a Multi-state Nursing License from a participating state in the NLC (Nurse Licensure Compact). -American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent. Preferred Certifications & Licensure: -N/A
Required Education: -BSN or nursing degree. Preferred Education: -N/A Required Certifications & Licensure: -American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA approved equivalent is required within 90 days. Preferred Certifications & Licensure: -N/A Basic Rhythm Competency test
