Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) - PICU-PCICU
Location: Grand Rapids, MI 49503 (may float to NICU and general pediatric)
Duration: 3+ Months (Possible Extension)
Shift:
- Rotating 12-hour shifts: 0700–1930 and 1900–0730
- Weekend rotation: Every other weekend
- Shift blocks: 4–6 weeks of day/night rotation
- On Call: None

Job Summary:
- Delivers nursing care responsibly and accountably as described by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan.
- Demonstrates competency through the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Upholds standards of professional performance, including ethical practice, culturally congruent care, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, research, quality of practice, resource utilization, and environmental health.
- Strives to achieve optimal outcomes for patients and families.
- Seeking highly experienced, adaptable Pediatric ICU travelers drawn to complex, high-acuity care.
- Care for medically and surgically complex children across the full spectrum of critical illness.
- Strong foundational PICU experience required, including:
- Mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory support
- Vasoactive infusions and hemodynamic monitoring
- Post-operative surgical patients, sepsis, trauma, neurologic, and multi-system failure
- Must be independent, confident, able to assess, prioritize, escalate concerns, and integrate into existing workflows.
- Skilled in recognizing subtle clinical changes and partnering early with the care team.
Education:
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing (Required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Required) – must be obtained within 5 years for RNs starting on or after Jan 1, 2017, or within 7 years for RNs starting between Jan 1, 2013 – Dec 31, 2016
- Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong time management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently under high volume, tight deadlines, and multiple interruptions
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Competency with computer hardware and software systems
Licenses/Certifications:
- RN License: State of Michigan (Required, Upon Hire)
- BLS – AHA: 90 Days (Required)
- BLS – ARC: 90 Days (Required)
- PALS – AHA: 180 Days (Required)
- PEARS – AHA: 1 Year (Preferred)
- Specialty Certification: Unknown (Preferred, Upon Hire)
Essential Functions:
- Provides evidence-based nursing care consistent with interprofessional plan of care, health system policies, and ANA/regulatory standards.
- Communicates and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
- Acts as a patient/family advocate and performs point-of-care testing as required.
- Demonstrates ethical, moral, and culturally sensitive behavior; adheres to ANA Code of Ethics.
- Assesses patient/family needs and analyzes data to identify potential diagnoses or issues.
- Develops and implements individualized interprofessional plans of care with measurable outcomes.
- Evaluates patient and family educational needs and employs appropriate teaching strategies.
- Initiates discharge planning at first patient contact to ensure smooth transitions.
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation.
- Assumes autonomous leadership role and delegates to unlicensed personnel for safe, cost-effective care.
- Engages in professional development, peer evaluation, and ongoing quality improvement activities.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and completes all unit safety competencies on time.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
