Registered Nurse (RN) – NICU
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – NICU
Location: San Marcos, TX 78666
Duration: 3 + Months (Possibilities of Extension)
Unit: ICU Neonatal (Level 2 NICU), may float to Mother/Baby unit as needed
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Up to 3:1
Location: Texas (RN license required or compact state license)
Job Summary:
The NICU Nurse practices independently within the neonatal critical care environment, delivering both routine and complex nursing care. This role requires the ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions while managing contingencies and long-term care goals. The nurse will also delegate tasks appropriately to support optimal patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide nursing care consistent with ANA Standards and the nursing process: assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Address complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of neonates and their families.
- Administer medications and treatments per protocols, monitoring for side effects and efficacy.
- Document patient histories, symptoms, medications, and care accurately.
- Assess learning needs and provide education to patients’ families and caregivers.
- Meet organizational competency standards (OneCHRISTUS Competencies).
- Participate in ongoing competency validation and orientation programs.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum 1 year in NICU or related perinatal nursing setting preferred.
- Perinatal RN Residency or recent experience in Perinatal Care is a plus.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or compact state.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA only).
- Current STABLE certification (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants).
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (AHA only).
Additional Information:
- New hires must complete New Nurse Orientation within 30 days of hire.
- New hires will be precepted and validated on organizational and perinatal-specific competencies.
- Completion of all annual competency verifications is required.
