Job Summary
The MedSurg Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to post-surgical and acute care patients within a fast-paced General Surgery unit. The RN utilizes clinical judgment, nursing assessment, patient education, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support safe patient recovery and quality outcomes.
 
The nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while maintaining compliance with nursing standards, hospital policies, and Ohio Nurse Practice regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor post-surgical and medical patients
• Develop and implement individualized patient care plans
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments
• Monitor patient responses to surgery and medical interventions
• Perform wound care and post-operative assessments
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge care
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary teams
• Maintain accurate EMR documentation and patient charting
• Monitor for changes in patient condition and escalate concerns appropriately
• Support patient safety and infection prevention standards
• Coordinate discharge planning and continuity of care
• Float to other units as needed based on staffing and patient care needs
• Maintain compliance with ANA standards and Ohio Nurse Practice Act
• Participate in team-based patient care and unit workflow

Required Qualifications

• Active RN License
• MedSurg experience required
• Acute care hospital experience
• Strong communication and assessment skills
• Ability to work in fast-paced environment
• Ability to float as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• General Surgery unit experience
• Post-operative patient care experience
• Travel nursing experience
• Strong EMR documentation skills
