Unit Details

  • Specializes in care of critically injured trauma and surgical patients

  • Patient population includes trauma, transplant, plastics, oncology, obstetrics/gynecology, gastrointestinal, and orthopedics

  • High-acuity environment supporting multidisciplinary care




Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a high-acuity surgical ICU setting.




Essential Duties

  • Education:

    • Identify and meet learning needs of self

    • Attend education programs and use relevant patient education materials

    • Assess readiness and developmental level of patients/families

  • Patient Assessment & Planning:

    • Recognize and prioritize data from complex patient situations

    • Anticipate discharge needs and develop care plans with patients/families

    • Address cultural and ethnic considerations in care

  • Implementation:

    • Deliver care for patients with complex surgical/trauma conditions

    • Perform bedside point-of-care testing

    • Organize/prioritize care and consult appropriate resources

    • Follow organizational policies and procedures

  • Evaluation of Care:

    • Identify expected patient outcomes and revise plans as needed

    • Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions

    • Ensure continuity of care through effective communication

  • Leadership & Professional Growth:

    • Develop professional goals and participate in performance improvement

    • Promote cost-effective and safe care practices

    • Provide constructive feedback to colleagues

    • Maintain awareness of public policy/regulatory guidelines

  • Research:

    • Review and share applicable evidence-based practices from journals/articles




Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience

Preferred Skills: N/A




Education

  • Required: Nursing Diploma OR ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing

  • Preferred: BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing




Certifications & Licensure

  • Required:

    • Active RN license (North Carolina)

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA or ARC

    • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

  • Preferred: N/A
