Job Function 1: Assessment Skills:
- Has competent knowledge of all the normal stages of growth and development from Pediatric to Geriatric and delivers patient care appropriately.
- Performs thorough assessments that are systematic, comprehensive, and accurate.
- Consistently demonstrates competent clinical skills.
- Performs direct patient care activities in support of patient care delivery and team concept.
- Provides competent and appropriate nursing care to the population of the unit.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill of emergency equipment and procedures.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of documentation guidelines.
- Assumes primary responsibility for documenting components of the nursing process and patient’s progress toward meeting outcomes in the patient’s chart, including patient education.
- Demonstrates professional practice responsibility.
- Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures and is able to identify areas for clinical and professional growth.
- Consistently responds to patient’s/families and co-workers in a professional, courteous, positive manner.
- Promotes an environment where the patient and family is at the center and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goals and objectives.
- Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines.
- Consistently follows the National Patient Safety Goals, including following Universal Protocol and identifying patients utilizing 2 patient identifiers.
- Demonstrates use of safe transfer techniques and proper body mechanics for self and patients.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the conditions/diagnoses, procedures, and equipment encountered for surgical patients.
- Individualizes patient care according to the procedure and type of anesthesia across the continuum of care.
- Assesses patient reaction and understanding of procedure/instructions.
- Contributes to the perioperative team by assuming responsibility and accountability for directing patient care.
- Prioritizes the care of patients depending on their needs and any changes in their condition.
- Assesses patient’s understanding of surgical procedure/instructions.
- Actively includes the patient and family members in teaching.
- Performs pre-operative and postoperative assessment and education.
- Supports the completion of patient testing in a timely manner.
- Evaluates Pre Admission Testing (PAT) orders for appropriateness and for potential omissions based on proposed surgery, patient age, and current state of health.
Physical Requirements:
- As defined by Occupational Safety/OMS.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Preferred: Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree.
Skills & Certifications:
- ACLS: Required
- BLS: Required
- RN License: Required
