Title: Procurement/Purchasing Manager
Location: Melrose Park, IL
Duration: 6 Months+ Possible Extension

Job Summary:

The Manager, Procurement Shared Services leads the U.S. Operational Purchasing organization and serves as the primary steward of procurement process excellence, compliance, and service delivery across all operational procurement activities. This role oversees a multidisciplinary team responsible for procurement administration, vendor onboarding, master data management, catalog and contract maintenance, enduser support, training, analytics, and reporting. The position ensures that all activities align with corporate procurement policies, global standards, and the strategic objectives of the Global Procurement function

The leader in this role drives the implementation of the global Target Operating Model within the U.S. organization, partnering closely with the Global Procurement Center of Excellence, Global Business Services, and local country procurement leads. This includes participating in fitgap assessments, coordinating training and changemanagement efforts, supporting hypercare and stabilization phases, and ensuring delivery of operational KPIs throughout the transition.

Principal Activities:

Leadership & Team Management
  • Supervise and develop U.S. Operational Procurement teams (10+ employees), ensuring alignment with corporate procurement policies and industryspecific compliance standards.
  • Ensure proper staffing levels and required skill sets to support procurement operations in a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
  • Coach team leaders, establish performance goals, oversee skill development, and create individualized development plans.
  • Build a strong operational procurement organization with clear responsibilities, robust backup structures, and high-quality service delivery.
Procurement Operations & Process Excellence
  • Provide strategic oversight of endtoend procurement operations, including vendor onboarding, vendor master data governance, catalog optimization, contract administration, and the delivery of highquality enduser support and training.
  • Manage data analytics and reporting processes to ensure accuracy, transparency, and timely delivery of procurement KPIs.
  • Ensure consistent execution of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and provide clear, transparent reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain complete, uptodate documentation of procurement processes and procedures in accordance with pharma compliance and audit requirements.
  • Act as the primary contact for internal and external auditors regarding procurementrelated processes.
Strategic Alignment & Governance
  1. Ensure full compliance with corporate procurement guidelines, policies, and quality standards, including those specific to the pharmaceutical sector (e.g., GxPrelated procurement considerations where applicable).
  2. Understand and translate the strategic goals of the Global Procurement function into operational execution within the U.S. organization.
  3. Collaborate closely with Global Business Services (GBS) and Global Procurement Centers of Excellence to ensure alignment, standardization, and continuous improvement.
Implementation & Transformation
  • Lead the implementation of the target operating model for procurement in the U.S. organization, following the Function Excellence blueprint.
  • Participate in fitgap analyses, coordinate training resources, and support change management activities across business units.
  • Partner with global project teams to resolve open issues prior to deployment and support hypercare and stabilization phases postimplementation.
  • Deliver operational KPIs and participate in governance meetings to ensure smooth and timely implementation of new processes and systems.
Continuous Improvement & Risk Management
  • Monitor procurement processes to identify risks, inefficiencies, and compliance gaps; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Generate and drive process improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Ensure proactive issue resolution through regular engagement with local company contacts and country procurement leads.
  • Support and participate in crossfunctional and crossregional projects led by Global Procurement, GBS, or the broader corporate group.

Education & Technical Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of endtoend procurement operations within a regulated environment.
  • Solid knowledge of P2P process interdependencies, including PR/PO management, Accounts Payable, Travel & Expense, and Payments.
  • Working experience with SAP MM and FI modules, ARIBA, and ServiceNow; familiarity with workflow solutions is an advantage.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
Operational & Transformation Experience
  • Minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in procurement or supply chain, including at least three years in a leadership or peoplemanagement role.
  • Experience supporting or transitioning procurement activities into a Shared Service Center environment, including development of standard operating procedures and knowledgetransfer activities, is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to support process standardization, optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Strong managerial and leadership capabilities with the ability to guide, motivate, and develop teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions and cultures.
  • High degree of flexibility, resilience, and ability to perform under pressure in a dynamic environment.

Additional Requirements
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
