Job Title: Mechanical Technician IV
Job Location: Newton, NC
Job Duration: 12 Months+ (Possible Extension)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Work Rotation: Typically 3 days on / 4 days off, then 4 days on / 3 days off
Travel: Project sites between Newton, NC and Hickory, NC
Hours: 40 hours/week (overtime and periodic off-hours support expected)
Position Summary:
This role sits within Engineering Projects and focuses on manufacturing capacity additions, new equipment installation, and mechanical line debug. The position provides advanced mechanical expertise to support installation, troubleshooting, optimization, and operational handoff of manufacturing lines.
The role requires strong hands-on mechanical knowledge, root cause problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally while maintaining project timing, cost, and quality targets.

Key Responsibilities:
Project & Installation Support:
- Lead and/or support multi-line equipment installations and mechanical debug activities.
- Manage installation milestones to ensure capacity additions meet timeline objectives.
- Prepare lines and associated parts for Operations Receivership.
- Align, test, and calibrate mechanical systems post-installation.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of:
- Pumps
- Motors
- Conveyors
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement industrialized, long-term solutions.
- Design and implement mechanical improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and safety.
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to support repair and improvements.
- Identify reliability, efficiency, and safety improvement opportunities.
- Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.
- Manage spare parts identification and coordinate storeroom entries.
- Support operations workforce training related to equipment changes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to implement process improvements.
- Maintain safe work practices and report hazardous conditions.
- Adhere to industrial safety standards and regulations.
Required Qualifications:
Education:
- Associate degree required
- High School diploma considered with significant hands-on experience
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in new equipment installations within manufacturing
- Start-up experience preferred
- Experience working in fast-paced, multi-priority environments
Technical Skills:
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals
- Expertise in:
- Hydraulics
- Pneumatics
- Bearings
- Gear systems
- Conveyor systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
- Proficiency in:
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Basic CMMS systems
- Hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment
- Strong knowledge of industrial safety practices
Certifications (Preferred):
- Mechatronics trades highly desired
- Millwright, HVAC, Welding, or related industrial certifications
- OSHA or other safety certifications
Desired Experience:
- Hands-on commercial manufacturing equipment experience
- Project leadership or milestone management experience
- Vendor/supplier management experience
- CAD experience
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Soft Skills:
- Technical project leadership capability
- Strong collaboration skills
- Ability to supervise resources and meet aggressive deadlines
