Duties:
The Registered Nurse, as a professional practitioner, assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care. According to the established standards of nursing practice and standards of care, he/she demonstrates an ability to make clinical nursing judgements in an efficient and effective manner. The Registered Nurse demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care and consistently performs according to the standards of the profession.
Skills:
The Emergency Department registered nurse must be able to assess patient conditions, administer medications, change dressings, monitor vital signs, interpret cardiac rhythm strips, keep records and provide patients with support and education. Patient care employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient s status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s needs in relation to age and to provide the care needed as described in the department s policies and procedures. Performs, interprets and completes assessment/reassessment per policy, develops, implements and revises patient specific plan of care. Demonstrates implementation and staff adherence to NPSGs as appropriate. Completes documentation, objectively, accurately and timely. Demonstrates ability to identify critical events/near misses and takes appropriate action. Responsible for 80% review of all staff meeting information by attending staff meetings or reviewing staff meeting minutes. Provides an environment conducive to safety and security. Implements appropriate precautions/measures. Responds to emergency codes. Demonstrates appropriate use of equipment and devices pertinent to the care and safety of the patient. Upholds the basic rights of privacy and seeks to preserve dignity/Independence of expression of all patient and families.
