We are looking for an energetic and experienced mass spectrometry scientist to join our Research Client Characterization team in the Protein Solutions and Bioanalytical department. This individual will help us grow our mass spectrometry capabilities, lead the development of new or improved techniques for the characterization of proteins and antibody drug conjugates in various matrices, as well as maintain our shared mass spectrometers. They will also participate in collaborative, cross-functional teams to enable cancer therapeutic development and aid in exploring scientific questions surrounding antibody-based therapeutic activity and behavior.

They will also participate in collaborative, cross-functional teams to enable cancer therapeutic development and aid in exploring scientific questions surrounding antibody-based therapeutic activity and behavior.
Position responsibilities:
- Determine and develop Client and appropriate LC-MS methods for the characterization of intact ADCs, antibodies, and other proteins
- Develop and optimize both broadly applicable and fit-for-purpose methodologies for the capture, characterization, and quantification of proteins and conjugates from biological samples
- Perform pepProduct mapping to deeply characterize proteins and bioconjugates
- Provide care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of shared LC-MS instrumentation, including training new users and developing and maintaining best practices
- Provide technical and scientific advice and support to scientists of all levels, advise on LC and mass spectrometry related questions, and provide sample processing and data analysis for non-MS users
- Practice continuous improvement to refine methods and optimize processes, staying in touch with relevant literature and state of the art technologies
- Maintain strong communication and collaborative relationships with mass spectrometry groups outside of Research
- Create and organize technical information to deliver effective presentations in multiple forums
Organizational relationships:
- Working primarily with Protein BioAnlaytical Solutions (PBS) Conjugation group and Antibody Design and Engineering (AD&E) groups with some interactions with the Chemistry group.
Education and experience:
- A Ph.D. or equivalent experience in bioanalytical chemistry, analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline with recognized and established expertise in mass spectrometry
- 4+ years of research experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry or closely related academic areas
- Demonstrated experience in the operation and maintenance of mass spectrometers, their software, and applicable data analysis software
- Established capability in biological characterization and data analysis, specifically utilizing mass spectrometry techniques
- Attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset capable of proposing sound experimental strategies and developing new LC-MS protocols
- Uses critical thinking to solve complex problems, address challenges, overcome obstacles, and anticipate areas for growth
- Established safe laboratory skills and accurate record keeping
- Ability to work independently on routine experiments
Technical skills requirements:
Preferred qualifications include:
- Hands-on experience working with a Waters Xevo G2S QTof, Thermofisher Q Exactive, and/or SCIEX X500B QTOF
- Familiarity with affinity purification of proteins, pepProducts and/or metabolites.
- Experience analyzing all types of recombinant proteins
- Experience identifying and characterizing post-translational modifications or enzymatic modifications of proteins
- Experience with protein conformational analysis, such as Hydrogen deuterium exchange mass spectrometry
- Familiarity with Protein Metrics software and reporting, including high throughput data processing
- Experience or familiarity with mass spectrometry automation
- Knowledge of SEC-MALS biological analysis methods
