Job Title: Registered Nurse - Surgical Specialty
Location: Oklahoma City, OK 73104
Duration: 3 + Months (Possibilities of Extension)

Schedule: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week
 
General Description:
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care to patients with a wide range of health issues, from simple to complex, primarily in a medical-surgical (med/surg) unit. This role requires the ability to manage post-operative care, including step-down patients, and involves working closely with patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
 
Essential Responsibilities:


  • Manage an assigned group of patients, providing safe and competent nursing care.
  • Document patient responses to interventions, medical treatments, and physician orders accurately and promptly.
  • Assist physicians with patient examinations and minor diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Monitor and assess patient physiological data and intervene as needed.
  • Administer prescribed medications, intravenous infusions, and blood products.
  • Communicate care plans with patients and families, including discharge instructions.
  • Make appropriate referrals regarding patient care needs.
  • Delegate tasks to support staff while ensuring quality care.
 
Unit-Specific Experience:
  • Med/Surg Experience: Must have acute care surgical floor experience; OR candidates will not be accepted.
  • Step-Down Experience: Required for care of patients with new drains, wounds, tracheostomies, ostomies, nasogastric tubes (NGT), or double-lumen hemodialysis catheters (DHT).
  • 4E Unit: Focus on post-operative care for surgical patients with ratios of 5-6 patients per nurse.
  • 4W Unit: Surgical transplant area caring for new and returning transplant patients requiring close monitoring for rejection, infection, and other complications, with ratios of 3-4 patients per nurse.
  • Preferred experience in ENT and/or transplant care is a plus.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Current RN license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing or a multistate compact RN license (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum 1 year of nursing experience, preferably in acute care surgical settings.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and procedures.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and coordination skills.
  • Effective communication skills and cultural sensitivity.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher from a board-approved program.
