Department Overview:
Client Rockingham is a small community hospital. Pediatric patients are rare (~10%), usually older than 30 days, and only overnight stays are needed. Nursing care focuses mainly on monitoring oxygen levels and apneic episodes.
Job Summary:
Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards, reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director. Coordinates and delivers patient care using the nursing process in a hospital setting.

- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 3 shifts per week (36 hours total, 12 hours per shift)
- Weekends: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
- Holidays: Every Other Holiday (EOH)
- On-call: Not required

- Uses patient education materials; assesses readiness to learn.
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Participates in interdisciplinary discussions and revisions of the plan of care.
- Communicates relevant information for continuity of care.
- Provides care for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs.
- Performs bedside point-of-care testing.
- Organizes and prioritizes care; consults with resources for complex cases.
- Develops goals for professional growth; participates in unit performance improvement.
- Promotes collaboration, cost-effective care, and safe hospital environment.
- Gives feedback to co-workers; aware of public policy and regulations.
- Prioritizes care based on complex assessment data.
- Synthesizes data before communication.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs.
- Builds relationships with families to support advocacy.
- Collaborates with patient/family to update care plans.
- Uses multidisciplinary resources; prioritizes tasks for complex patients.
- Addresses cultural and ethnic considerations.
- Reviews relevant studies/journals; brings applicable ideas to staff.
Requirements:
Education:
- Required: Nursing Diploma, or ADN/ASN from accredited school
- Preferred: BSN or MSN
Experience:
- Required: 1 year of nursing experience
Licenses & Certifications:
- Required: RN license in North Carolina, BLS for Healthcare Provider (AHA or ARC)
- Preferred: ACLS, PALS
- Competent in nursing process
- Strong assessment, planning, and prioritization skills
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Ability to manage complex patient needs
