Day-to-Day Responsibilities / Workload
1. Technology Integration & Evaluation
-
Lead the integration of new technologies (pre-commercial or commercial equipment new to Client) into the system.
-
Assess pilot projects aProductst success criteria and determine readiness for system-wide deployment.
2. Standards Development & Governance
-
Develop, update, and maintain engineering standards to support new technologies and evolving compliance requirements.
-
Ensure alignment with regulatory mandates, risk mitigation strategies, and corporate objectives.
3. Stakeholder Coordination
-
Collaborate with key stakeholders including Project Leads, Subject Matter Experts, Substation Construction & Maintenance, Operations, and Training Teams.

Facilitate communication and engagement throughout all phases of technology transition.
4. Training & Knowledge Transfer
-
Partner with Technology Integration and Training teams to develop training plans for end-users.
-
Ensure updates to operating manuals, maintenance procedures, and compatible units are completed before deployment.
5. Post-Deployment Activities
-
Define asset ownership and responsibilities (e.g., Infrastructure Replacement Sponsor, Equipment Maintenance).

Oversee SAP and Master Data integration for new technologies.
6. Process & Documentation Management
-
Manage standards change requests through all phases of the Standards Process.

Maintain documentation and ensure procedural compliance for technology transfer and standards updates.
7. Risk & Impact Assessment
-
Conduct impact assessments for new standards and technology adoption, including operational, safety, and training implications.

Identify gaps and feed insights back to strategy teams for roadmap updates.
Required Skills / Attributes
1. Technical Skills
-
Standards Expertise: Deep understanding of transmission, distribution, and substation standards; ability to own and manage standard content and updates.
-
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with CPUC General Orders, NERC requirements, and compliance frameworks.
-
Design & Analysis: Ability to interpret engineering principles and evaluate implications of standards changes (e.g., conductor tension tables, clearance, structural loads).
-
Software Proficiency: Working knowledge of tools impacted by standards updates (AUD/DM, SPIDA pole loading); AutoCAD for substation standards drawing updates.

Technology Integration: Capability to lead pilot processes and facilitate technology transfer for new equipment and systems.
2. Strategic & Analytical Skills

Roadmap Alignment: Awareness of Asset Strategy & Planning (ASP) roadmaps to ensure standards updates align with organizational goals and asset management strategies.

Risk Assessment: Ability to evaluate QA/QC findings, assess operational impacts, and identify gaps for continuous improvement.
3. Project Management & Leadership

Pilot Facilitation: Lead technology pilots, coordinate stakeholder engagement, and manage transition to long-term business processes.

Communication: Develop and deliver standards updates, facilitate Q&A sessions, and engage in industry forums (e.g., NEETRAC).

Stakeholder Alignment: Act as the face of ASP with other organizational units, ensuring collaboration across engineering, operations, and planning teams.
4. Soft Skills

Collaboration: Work effectively with SMEs, planners, and field personnel to resolve technical queries and implement standards.

Adaptability: Ability to manage complex tasks across multiple standards and disciplines in a dynamic environment.
Desired Skills / Attributes

Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred.

Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of power systems, standards development, regulatory compliance (CPUC, NERC), and proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SPIDA, AUD/DM).

Leadership & Collaboration: Strong ability to lead technology pilots, manage standards updates, and coordinate across cross-functional teams while influencing decisions.

Strategic & Analytical Skills: Skilled in risk assessment, cost-benefit analysis, and aligning technology adoption with organizational roadmaps; excellent communication and problem-solving mindset.
