Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health
Location: Belle Mead, NJ 08502
Duration: 3+ months (Possible extensions or FT Conversion)

Shift: Days/ Nights
Schedule: 3 × 12-hour shifts (0.9 FTE), Every Other Weekend, Every Other Holiday, No On-Call Requirement, Float within facility to like units
Weekly Gross: $2520 (Local/ Travel Contracts available)
 
Job Summary:
This position functions under the supervision of the Unit Director and the leadership of the Senior Nurse or designated Charge Nurse.
  • The Registered Professional Staff Nurse has responsibility for providing individualized quality patient care by assessing patient needs through data collection and by designing, implementing, and continuously evaluating the plan of care.
  • Works in collaboration with all members of the treatment team.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • May be assigned to any inpatient unit to meet patient care needs.
  • On admission, completes Nursing Admission Assessment, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and problems and developing ITP considering patient’s age, disability, ethnicity, culture, and religion.
  • Administers medication and treatment accurately according to policies and procedures and assesses effects on the patient.
  • Attends multidisciplinary TP conferences and works collaboratively to achieve goals.
  • Assures patient care is provided in accordance with the MTP.
  • Implements hospital-wide, regulatory, and standard nursing policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Collaborates with treatment teams and supports continuing care plans.
  • Assesses and documents learning needs, readiness, and barriers for patients and families; provides age-appropriate education and materials.
  • Contributes to unit-based PI measures, data collection, and activities.
  • Maintains a safe, orderly environment and reports hazards.
  • Handles/disposes of infectious and hazardous materials per policy.
  • Reviews patient charts for new orders each shift and transcribes/orders medications within time limits.
  • Documents adverse reactions and unusual incidents per policy.
  • Uses approved abbreviations and completes timely, accurate medical record documentation.
  • Participates in orientation of new personnel/students.
  • Identifies problems, strengths, and interventions within 24 hours of admission.
  • Attends treatment planning conferences and revises plans weekly or as needed.
  • Conducts nursing psycho-educational groups.
  • Meets annual IV re-certification (if applicable).
  • Models I CARE standards of behavior.
 
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
  • Required: ASN
  • Preferred: BSN
 
Licensure & Certifications:
  • Required: NJ State Professional Registered Nurse license or multi-state compact license
  • Required: BLS – AHA
  • Preferred: None
 
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Behavioral Health inpatient experience
  • Demonstrates computer literacy and competency for required systems
  • Positive communication techniques with treatment team members
  • Knowledge and skills to care for adolescent, adult, and older adult patients
  • Knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan
  • Cultural competence in patient care considering age, ethnicity, culture, disability, and sexual orientation/gender identity
  • Proficient in patient orientation/admission assessments (abuse, neglect, domestic violence, pain, suicide risk, fall assessment, withdrawal scales, vital signs, status precautions)
  • Charting and confidentiality (SOAPIE notes, Care Notes, patient/family education, chart security, patient rights, confidentiality, advanced directives)
  • Medication administration, transcription, co-signing, ordering, PRN documentation, variance reporting, chart checks
  • Crisis management (emergency codes, CPR, AED use, least restrictive care, HWC techniques, incident reporting)
  • Care of patients (therapeutic milieu, suicide prevention, seclusion/restraint protocols, safe handling techniques)
