Job Duration: 2-3 Months (Possibilities of Extension)

Job Summary:
  • Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.

1. Chemotherapy and Administration and Consultation:
  • Administers PO, SC injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered by physician: consults with other medical personnel and may provide expert information about chemotherapy, side effects, etc.; provides a variety of assistance to physicians.
  • Assumes responsibility for clinic specific assignments.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, notes all changes in physician orders on assigned patients.
  • Assists physician during conscious sedation patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers medication as prescribed. Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care competently.
  • Interacts with family and patient in sharing care plan while in the clinic, time of discharge, and continued care via phone triage.
  • Informs patient and family of clinic procedures.
2. Patient Education:
  • Provides chemotherapy related educational information to patients, family, etc.; answers inquiries and provides guidance as appropriate.
  • Makes referral regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Delegates tasks to support staff.
3. Patient Follow Up:
  • Schedules patient follow-up activities related to their treatment and assists with coordination of care by obtaining referrals and completing phone calls with the patients after their clinic visits.
Required Education:
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Preferred Education:
  • Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
  • Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC).
  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (American Heart Association).
  • Fundamentals of Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
  • ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
Required Skills & Experience:
  • 1 year of experience.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Some computer skills.
Schedule Hours Per Week: 40.00
Schedule Hours Per Day: 10.00
Schedule Days Per Week: 4.00
