Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) is responsible for providing specialized, high-quality care to patients undergoing complex cardiovascular procedures. Utilizing advanced nursing knowledge and judgment, the RN will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for individuals with critical cardiovascular conditions. The RN will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, surgical technologists, assistants, and support staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safety. The position requires a commitment to continuous professional development, effective communication, and adherence to ethical and clinical standards. The RN will provide culturally sensitive care that aligns with both patient and organizational needs.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Assessment:

- Conduct thorough patient assessments, utilizing knowledge from biological, physical, behavioural, and nursing sciences to identify patient needs.
- Develop individualized care plans that are specific to the patient’s condition and age, ensuring that care is culturally appropriate and in line with best practices.
- Implement and evaluate care plans, adjusting as necessary to optimize patient outcomes.

Collaborative Care Delivery:
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including surgeons, surgical assistants, and support staff, to deliver excellent cardiovascular care.
- Participate in complex and specialized cardiovascular surgical procedures, such as CABG, heart valve repairs/replacements, heart transplants, LVADs, ECMO, and minimally invasive robotic procedures.
- Support and assist in endovascular repairs and hybrid cardiovascular procedures in the hybrid operating room, assisting the Cath Lab and Electrophysiology (EP) Lab teams when needed.

Safety & Quality:
- Ensure a focus on patient safety and quality, following established protocols and best practices in a high-acuity environment.
- Provide care in compliance with the American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

Communication & Education:
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members to provide education and ensure understanding of care plans and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all organizational policies regarding privacy and documentation.

Professional Development & Competence:
- Maintain clinical competence through ongoing education and professional growth activities.
- Stay current with advancements in cardiovascular nursing care and incorporate evidence-based practices into daily work.
Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR):
- The CVOR is a critical and fast-paced area within our main operating room, comprising 3 open-heart surgical rooms, 1 cardiovascular/thoracic robot room, and 1 hybrid room. The team works together to perform highly specialized cardiovascular surgeries, including CABG, mitral/aortic valve repairs/replacements, heart transplants, balloon pump insertions, Impella, LVADs, RVADs, ECMO, and aortic aneurysm repairs.
- The team also supports minimally invasive and robotic procedures, as well as endovascular thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysm repairs in the hybrid room.
- Patients in the CVOR are often critically ill, with multiple co-morbidities, requiring the highest level of care and coordination across disciplines. The team prioritizes excellent patient outcomes and safety, with strong support from nursing leadership and medical teams.

Licensing & Certification:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio (or eligibility to obtain).
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Clinical Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of CVOR experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
- Experience with complex cardiovascular procedures, including open-heart surgeries, heart transplants, ECMO, and robotic cardiovascular surgeries.
- Strong background in patient assessment, care planning, and implementation in the operating room environment.
- Familiarity with sterile techniques, patient safety protocols, and use of advanced surgical equipment.

Preferred Skills & Experience
- Additional certifications in cardiovascular nursing or perioperative care (such as CNOR, CVRN).
- Previous experience with robotic-assisted heart surgeries and/or hybrid cardiovascular procedures.

- Hours per Week: 40 hours
- Days per Week: 4 days
- Hours per Day: 10 hours (06:15 AM – 04:45 PM)
- Schedule Notes:
- 4x10 schedule with 1 first-call shift and overnight call per week.
- Possible second-call shifts, with weekend call rotation every 5-6 weekends.
- Transplant call required: 1+ year of CVOR experience is required.
