Required Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
- BLS certification required from AHA.
- ACLS certification required from AHA.
- RN License in state of employment or compact.
Patient Population on Unit:
- MI, CHF, Arrhythmias, PVD, and some med-surg overflow.
- The department manages many cardiac drips (no nitrates) and oversees patients on these drips.
Position Details:
- Temp to perm is a possibility.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
- On Call Requirement: No call.
- Floating Requirement/Locations: Required to float when needed.
- Nurse/Patient Ratio: 5:1, but can be 6:1 on occasion.
Summary:
- The competent Nurse practices independently in the same or similar clinical setting and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation.
- Provides routine and complex care, with the ability to plan and execute long-range goals.
- Continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage contingencies of clinical nursing.
- Makes appropriate assignments and delegates to other care providers to help manage clinical situations.
Responsibilities:
- Meets expectations of applicable client competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
- Provides nursing care consistent with ANA Product and Standards of Practice, utilizing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation) for assigned patients.
- Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with level of practice.
- Administers medications and treatments per protocol; monitors for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.
Education/Skills:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred.
- All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
- New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member; on-boarding requirements validated through organizational entry competency and MedSurg-specific competency validation.
- Newly licensed RNs may participate in a residency program or other specific orientation.
- Skills completion and competency verified at the bedside with preceptor and documented through the program tracking software.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
Experience:
- 1 year of experience in a related nursing specialty preferred.
