Location: Louisville, KY 40213
Duration: 6+ Months (Possibilities of Extension)
 
Shift: Sunday – Thursday, 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
 
Overview:
The Histology Technician II is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests that support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions. This role operates with minimal supervision and involves embedding tissue, cutting and staining samples, operating lab equipment, and maintaining accurate records. Working within the Global Diagnostics division, this position collaborates with internal veterinary pathologists and lab personnel to ensure high-quality and accurate diagnostic services.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Prepare thin slices of tissue for analysis with minimal supervision.
  • Cut various tissue types using microtomes; operate automated tissue stainers.
  • Examine, adjust, and process tissue for optimal sample preservation.
  • Perform independent embedding of various tissue types.
  • Mount tissue samples on slides; stain/dye to highlight abnormalities.
  • Prepare and troubleshoot special stains and IHC (Immunohistochemistry) slides.
  • Identify and correct factors affecting procedures and results.
  • Review histology slides for quality, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Perform special stains as requested by pathologists.
  • Assist in advanced techniques such as molecular pathology or electron microscopy.
  • Operate and clean all anatomic pathology lab equipment.
  • Conduct quality control checks on daily H&E stains.
  • Complete additional tasks as required.
 
Education & Experience:
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in histology required.
  • HT or HTL certification in histology preferred.
  • Experience in diverse staining techniques and lab equipment usage.
 
Technical Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment and software.
  • Excellent collaboration and team skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Effective time management and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent data entry and documentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Fluency in the English language.
