Hours: Typically M-F 8:00 am-4:30 pm, but will flex based on patient census, treatment requirements
Shift length: 8hrs
Weekend rotation: Not likely, only if severe machine issue/repair needed
On Call: None

Job Summary:
Therapeutic Medical Physicist:
Primarily and professionally engaged in the evaluation, delivery, and optimization of therapeutic applications of ionizing radiation, and the equipment associated with their production, use and measurement. Role involves clinical and educational components. Performs radiation safety duties as required for regulatory compliance and safe use of ionizing radiation.
Diagnostic/Nuclear Medical Physicist:
Primarily and professionally engaged in the evaluation, operation, and optimization of modalities used for medical imaging. Contributes to the improvement of imaging both in the introduction and application of new technology as it becomes available. Uses scientific methodology to validate quantitative measurements from imaging as appropriate. Role involves clinical and educational components. Performs radiation safety duties and/or magnetic resonance safety duties as required for regulatory compliance and safe use of imaging modalities.
Equipment/Software used: Varian Truebeam linear accelerators, Aria R&V, Eclipse TPS, RadCalc secondary QA program, BrachyVision HDR treatment planning, Sun Nuclear ArcCHECK, MapCHECK 2, SrsMAPCHECK, IC Profiler, SNC Patient/Machine for patient and daily, monthly, annual QA.
Education:
Master's Degree
in radiological or medical physics

Experience:
2 years of relevant experience
Therapeutic Medical Physicist: in a clinical setting, including machine calibrations and radiation oncology treatment planning and dose calculations

Diagnostic/Nuclear Medical Physicist: X-ray, CT, MR, nuclear medicine and ultrasound imaging; use of phantoms and other test devices to evaluate image quality and equipment performance; evaluate and convey risks of ionizing radiation exposure from x-ray and gamma ray use; evaluation of risk to high strength magnetic fields and MR radiofrequency exposure.

Essential Functions:
Therapeutic Physicist: Performs and oversees calibrations, quality assurance monitoring, acceptance testing and commissioning for all radiation oncology simulation, planning, and treatment equipment.
Therapeutic Physicist: Oversees the maintenance and repairs of simulation and radiation treatment units. Responsible for releasing these machines for sale, clinical use following service.
Therapeutic Physicist: Reviews treatment plan calculations and data input into record and verifies system for accuracy, as performed by physics and technical employees. Performs and oversees external beam and brachytherapy treatment plans.
Therapeutic Physicist: Works closely with the radiation oncologists and dosimetrists providing consultation on treatment techniques for the optimization of radiation dose distribution in patients. Evaluates and/or implements new programs and treatment techniques for radiation oncology.
Diagnostic/Nuclear Physicist: Performs and/or oversees the setup and operation of imaging equipment in Radiology and other imaging locations; this includes acceptance testing, phantom imaging for accreditation and routine testing as required by regulatory and accreditation programs. Measure and characterize medical radiation from imaging equipment prior to clinical utilization.
Diagnostic/Nuclear Physicist: evaluate radiation dose from prescribed protocols for imaging with ionizing radiation; evaluate risk profiles when required; provide calculations for exposures of pregnant patients.
Diagnostic/Nuclear Physicist: Assist with magnetic resonance safety programs, providing expertise for implants and radiofrequency exposure for the magnetic resonance safety officer.
Diagnostic/Nuclear Physicist: Assist in the development and implementation of new technology and methods in imaging modalities, including the support of special requirements for various service lines.
Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
Performs other duties as assigned.
