The AR Developer & Instructional Designer is responsible for building next-generation immersive training experiences that blend augmented reality technology with sound instructional design principles. This role sits at the intersection of cutting-edge spatial computing and learner-centered content development, creating AR-powered learning solutions tailored for service associates and customers worldwide.
AR Development (Primary)
Design, develop, and deploy augmented reality training experiences using platforms such as PTC Vuforia, Product AR, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Guides, or equivalent AR authoring tools.
Build interactive 3D overlays, step-by-step AR work instructions, and spatial learning modules for complex diagnostic equipment servicing and operation.
Collaborate with engineers and subject matter experts to capture and translate technical procedures into accurate, intuitive AR experiences.
Optimize AR content for field-ready devices including tablets, smartphones, and smart glasses (e.g., HoloLens, RealWear).
Manage the full AR content development lifecycle from 3D asset acquisition and animation to deployment, testing, and iteration.
Maintain a library of reusable 3D assets, AR templates, and modular components to accelerate future development.
Instructional Design & Learning Content
Apply adult learning principles and instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) to ensure all AR and digital learning content is pedagogically sound and learner centered.
Develop supporting learning materials including eLearning modules, facilitator guides, job aids, and assessments that complement and reinforce AR experiences.
Partner with subject matter experts, project managers, and regional trainers to gather requirements and validate technical accuracy of learning content.
Monitor and evaluate learning effectiveness through KPIs and learner feedback, using data to drive continuous improvements to content.
Collaboration & Project Execution
Manage multiple concurrent development projects, ensuring high-quality delivery within established timelines and budgets.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders globally to align AR learning solutions with regional service needs and customer requirements.
Support train-the-trainer initiatives to help Client trainers confidently facilitate and guide AR-assisted learning sessions.
Stay current with emerging trends in AR/XR technology and immersive learning to continuously elevate the quality and innovation of the team's output.
Essential Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Computer Science, Interactive Media, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree with 3+ years of experience.
Demonstrated experience developing augmented reality or mixed reality training content using commercial AR authoring platforms.
Proficiency working with 3D content and assets experience with tools such as Unity, Blender, or similar 3D modeling/animation software is strongly preferred.
Working knowledge of instructional design methodologies and adult learning principles.
Strong project management skills and ability to deliver quality work on deadline across multiple simultaneous projects.
Ability to travel infrequently as needed to Client or customer sites domestically.
It Would Be a Plus If You Also Possess
Experience with wearable AR devices (Microsoft HoloLens, RealWear HMT, or similar smart glasses).
Proficiency in Articulate Storyline, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Microsoft Office for supporting content development.
Experience in a healthcare, diagnostics, or regulated industry environment.
Familiarity with xAPI/SCORM standards and LMS deployment of digital learning content.
Background in video production or multimedia content creation for technical training.
