Job Title: Hospital Specimen Technician
Job Location: Green Bay, WI
Duration: 3 Months
Shift/Time Zone: Mon - Fri 8:00 am-4:30 pm CST Lunch 12 PM - 12:30 PM.

Pay rate: $17.20/hrs on W2

Job Summary:


The Hospital Specimen Technician is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of patient specimens within a hospital setting. This role supports all pre-analytical processing procedures for specimens sent to Quest Diagnostics and requires strong technical, communication, and problem-solving skills.




Key Responsibilities:



Specimen Processing & Test Send-Out

  • Accurately perform all specimen preparation and processing procedures in accordance with hospital and Quest protocols.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in test ordering policies, specimen requirements, and compliance/legal regulations.

  • Utilize and maintain competency in the hospital Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Quest systems (e.g., Quantum).

  • Print, review, and manage Quest testing reports.

  • Interpret and track specimen flow using available reports and tracking tools.

  • Perform supply ordering and maintain adequate inventory levels.

  • Conduct remote (pre-)accessioning of specimens as required by client specifications.



Problem Resolution

  • Troubleshoot issues related to specimen types, missing information, test inquiries (TIQ/TNP), and additional sample requests.

  • Communicate effectively to resolve problems with specimens, orders, and test requirements.



Customer Service

  • Act as a liaison between hospital staff and Quest Diagnostics to ensure efficient and accurate communication.

  • Manage inbound calls and client inquiries with professionalism and positive customer interaction.

  • Collaborate effectively with hospital laboratory staff, Quest sales teams, and other internal departments.

  • Provide accurate information regarding test cancellations, requirements, and billing.




Required Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: 1–3 years of relevant work experience.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong data entry skills (6,000 keystrokes/hour).

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Experience with hospital LIS systems preferred.

    • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory processes preferred.
