Job Title: Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I)
Location: Greensboro, NC
Duration: 2 to 3 + Months (Possible Extension)
Shift/Time Zone: 3rd Shift - Monday – Friday 9:00 pm – 5:30 am.
Department:
- Specimen Processing Department.
- Production-based laboratory environment.
Position Summary:
- The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
- This role requires accuracy, efficiency, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to frequent changes.
- The SPT I plays a critical role in maintaining quality standards and customer satisfaction in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Functions may include, but are not limited to:
- A-station processing.
- Presort activities.
- Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
- Imaging and microfilming.
- Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens.
- Data entry of specimen information.
- Learning and identifying specimen types related to tests ordered by clients.
- Understanding and complying with changing test-order compliance regulations.
- Maintaining productivity, quality standards, and departmental completion times.
- All duties must be performed accurately, confidently, safely, and in a timely manner.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Heavy production environment with repetitive tasks.
- Biohazard laboratory setting.
- Required use of PPE when handling samples (lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, protective wear).
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Must maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Practices proper safety habits at all times.
Schedule & Availability:
- Majority of positions are night shift.
- Must be available for:
- Weekends.
- Holidays.
- Overtime.
- On-call shifts as needed.
- Must arrive on time and remain for the full scheduled shift.
- Excessive absenteeism or tardiness is not tolerated and may result in termination.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong data entry skills (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to daily changes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective communication with all levels of staff.
- Demonstrates flexibility and professionalism.
- Adheres to company core values, safety policies, and compliance procedures.
Language Requirements:
- Excellent command of English (spoken and written) is required.
- Bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) strongly preferred.
- English proficiency is still mandatory.
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- No prior experience required.
- Preferred experience includes:
- Laboratory or specimen processing.
- Medical background or medical terminology.
- Hospital laboratory experience.
- Production or high-volume work environments.
Technical Knowledge:
- Basic computer skills required.
- Knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Public transportation, Uber, or rideshare does not qualify as reliable transportation.
- Must be dependable and flexible to meet staffing needs.
