Operational Material Buyer

Job Title: Operational Material Buyer
Location: Ontario, CA 91761
Duration: 12 Months+ (Possible Extension)
 
Pay Range: $30 to $35/hr on W2
 
Experience: 2–3 years
Education: Associate’s/bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience
 
Key Responsibilities:
Enable:
  • Perform inventory analysis and maintain ownership of inventory management.
  • Execute SCM master data setup and maintenance.
  • Manage Product Life Cycle (PLC) and align buy-item stock/replenishment policies.
  • Monitor item changes and ensure proper planning in SAP.
  • Drive and implement supplier-managed and supplier-owned inventories.
 
Forecast:
  • Communicate forecasts with suppliers, including validation.
  • Manage supplier forecasts, participate in S&OP meetings, and check n-tier supply availability.
  • Align and balance material planning with production planning requirements.
 
Order:
  • Place orders with suppliers and monitor outstanding orders in terms of delivery, quality, and price.
  • Track order confirmations, monitor open orders, expedite as necessary, and keep SAP updated.
 
Mitigate & Escalate:
  • Identify material shortage risks, including n-tier suppliers.
  • Manage return orders and mitigation actions with suppliers.
  • Involve procurement for commercial leverage when necessary.
 
Improve:
  • Eliminate root causes of availability issues.
  • Provide input for supplier assessments and performance reviews.
  • Initiate and manage projects to improve performance and supply chain efficiency.
  • Calculate optimal inventory levels and understand technical requirements of purchased goods.
  • Support junior buyers in shortage mitigation, root cause analysis, and inventory management.
 
Problem Solving & Supplier Management:
  • Analyze supplier/item profiles to define proper replenishment processes.
  • Adjust communication style according to context (demanding vs. cooperative).
  • Handle stressful situations effectively and take proactive actions with suppliers.
  • Negotiate order changes and mitigation actions within contract boundaries.
  • Influence optimum price/quality levels from a total cost of ownership perspective.
  • Support team members in improvement initiatives and logistics agreements.
