Lab Assistant - 3rd shift
Job Title: Lab Assistant – 3rd Shift
Location: Irving, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Potential for Extension)
Shift: Sunday – Thursday, 2:00 AM to 10:30 AM CST
Job Summary
The Lab Assistant will perform routine laboratory support tasks with accuracy and precision to assist laboratory professionals and ensure smooth daytoday production. This role plays a critical part in specimen handling, equipment maintenance, quality control, and maintaining a safe, organized workspace.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort and receive specimens within the department.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated laboratory equipment.
- Carry out basic laboratory tasks, including:
- Centrifuging specimens
- Printing additional labels
- Recording data (e.g., temperature logs)
- Specimen storage, retrieval, and organization
- Prepare reagents and/or media as required.
- Prepare specimens for testing, which includes:
- Building worklists
- Aliquoting samples into cups
- Checking for clots or fibrin
- Inoculation
- Slide preparation
- Perform assigned QA/QC activities.
- Resolve pending lists and locate missing samples.
- Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
- Maintain departmental filing systems and documentation.
- Change gas cylinders as needed.
- Adhere to PPE requirements and follow all safety protocols.
- Use laboratory information systems and operate PCs effectively.
- Properly dispose of biohazard materials.
- Complete required training modules and competency checklists.

Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical assistant training is a plus.
- Math and science coursework preferred.
Experience
- No prior work experience required.
- Onthejob training will be provided.
