HIM Coding Inpatient Trainer/Auditor
Job Title: HIM Coding Inpatient Trainer/Auditor
Location: Milwaukee, WI, 53226 (Remote)
Duration: 11/03/2025 – 05/07/2026
Shift: 1st Shift
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Flexible schedule. Requirement to be on camera for interviews (not negotiable). No weekends, no holidays, no on-call.
Required Skills & Experience
-
A minimum of three (3) – five (5) years of HIM experience in an acute care environment coding inpatient records with DRG assignment.
Preferred Skills & Experience
-
Experience at an academic facility.
Education
-
Associate degree in HIM or equivalent.
-
In lieu of degree, education or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis of three (3) years of progressively responsible inpatient coding experience.

Bachelor’s degree in HIM or equivalent – Preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
-
Certified RHIA or RHIT or CCS – Required.

ICD-10 Trainer certification – Preferred.
Job Summary
-
Utilize educational and team-building strategies, and a thorough understanding of ICD-10 coding conventions and DRG assignments to effectively train, educate, and audit staff with the goal of maintaining a full complement of expertly trained inpatient coders enterprise-wide.

Develop, implement, maintain, and support a comprehensive internal coder training program to staff a highly qualified internal inpatient coding team.

Provide initial and ongoing training, education, and auditing of coders in the inpatient coder development program.

Provide ongoing training, education, and auditing of staff coders.

Provide continued guidance and education to staff by tracking, identifying, and monitoring coding compliance issues.

Provide coverage for the coding area as needed to meet coding goals while adhering to all coding guidelines.

Collaborate with management and coordinators in the development, implementation, upkeep, and monitoring of inpatient coding guidelines.

Perform other duties as assigned.
