Medical Laboratory Scientist
Location: Cincinnati, OH, 45237
Shift: M-F, with rotation of Every 4th weekend, 1st shift hours
Duration: 2 Months
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Technologist is responsible for performing high-complexity testing, analyzing specimens, and ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in laboratory systems, and adherence to quality control and safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- 
	
Perform specimen handling, processing, testing, analysis, and reporting in accordance with laboratory protocols.
 - 
	
Maintain accurate and organized records of all test results and proficiency testing samples.
 - 
	
Conduct testing using approved laboratory methods and ensure timely review and release of results.
 - 
	
Comply with all CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety regulations.
 - 
	
Adhere to established quality control and quality assurance (QC/QA) policies; document all calibrations, maintenance, and QC activities.
 - 
	
Identify and resolve issues affecting test performance or result accuracy; escalate to senior technologist or supervisor as necessary.
 - 
	
Document all corrective actions taken for any deviations in laboratory performance standards.
 - 
	
Report STAT and critical results promptly according to departmental procedures.
 - 
	
Ensure all reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, opened, and expiration dates.
 - 
	
Participate in training, procedure reviews, and monthly departmental meetings.
 - 
	
Maintain cleanliness, organization, and professional appearance of the laboratory.
 - 
	
Provide assistance to other lab personnel and respond to inquiries from clients when required.
 - 
	
Participate in safety drills and know the proper use and location of safety manuals and equipment.
 - 
	
Support compliance during inspections and audits from government or regulatory agencies.
 - 
	
Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
 
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- 
	
Strong understanding of basic and high-complexity laboratory testing.
 - 
	
Knowledge of laboratory quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures.
 - 
	
Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and multiple computer platforms.
 - 
	
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
 - 
	
Ability to collaborate across departments and maintain patient confidentiality.
 - 
	
Strong communication and customer service abilities.
 
Education & Certification:
- 
	
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology.
 - 
	
Minimum: Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology.
 - 
	
Must qualify under CLIA 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14, 1990).
 - 
	
Certification: ASCP or AMT preferred or eligibility for national certification required.
 - 
	
Foreign-Educated Candidates: Must submit credential evaluation from IERF.
 - 
	
U.S.-Educated Candidates: Must submit official academic transcripts.
 
Work Experience:
- 
	
Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience with high-complexity testing preferred.
 - 
	
National and state licensure as required.
