Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Cleveland, OH, 44103
Job Duration: 3 months (with possible extension)
Shift: Third shift 9:00pm - 5:30am, Sunday - Thursday
Payrate: $17.20 - $18.00/ hr. on w2

Job Summary:

  • The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens.
  • This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform specimen processing tasks including pre-sort, A-station processing, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen distribution to laboratory departments.
  • Accurately enter and verify patient and specimen data with a minimum typing speed of 6,000+ alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
  • Handle specimen imaging, scanning, and microfilming as required.
  • Ensure proper labeling, tracking, and documentation of all specimens.
  • Transport specimens safely within the laboratory while maintaining chain of custody and integrity.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Adapt to frequent changes in test orders, compliance regulations, and workflow processes.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other departments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following biohazard safety guidelines.
  • Meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards in a high-volume setting.
  • Work flexible schedules including night shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call shifts as required.

Education:

  • Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and specimen processing.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Prior experience in a clinical laboratory, hospital, or production environment (preferred but not required).
  • Strong computer proficiency and data entry experience.
