Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Technician
Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 4+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Sunday–Thursday, 9:30 PM – 6:00 AM CST
Position Overview
The Specimen Technician (SPT I) provides essential support within the Specimen Processing Department, ensuring accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens. This role involves data entry, specimen sorting, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery of processed samples to the laboratory. The position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced production environment while adhering to safety and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Accurately enter data at a rate of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Ensure timely pickup and delivery of processed specimens to designated laboratory areas.
- Maintain compliance with test ordering regulations and adapt to daily changes in requirements.
- Keep work area clean and organized while practicing good safety habits in a biohazard environment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments.
- Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changes in workflow and priorities.
- Adhere to productivity and quality standards in a high-volume setting.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (Required).
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with laboratory testing or specimen processing preferred.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in a production environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous laboratory or hospital experience.
- Medical background with knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience in a production environment.
