Specimen Processing - Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Technician – Specimen Processing
Location: Lewisville, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (with possibility of extension)
Shift: Tuesday to Saturday, 12:00 AM – 8:30 AM
Job Summary:
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) plays a vital role in the Specimen Processing Department, providing general support functions to ensure accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens. This position is ideal for individuals with a data entry background and a keen eye for detail, working primarily in a night shift production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen-related tasks including A-station, presort, pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
- Ensure all functions are completed with confidence, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Understand and identify specimen types related to client test orders.
- Stay updated with compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Maintain flexibility to adapt to daily operational changes and customer demands.
- Uphold productivity and quality standards in a fast-paced production environment.
- Communicate effectively across all levels of staff.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while practicing safety protocols.
Requirements:
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer proficiency; ability to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to change.
Preferred Experience:
- Previous laboratory or hospital lab experience.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and specimen processing.
- Experience in a production or biohazard environment.
Additional Information:
- Majority of work is during night shifts; availability for weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime is required.
- Role is critical to ensuring quality and customer satisfaction.
