Specimen Technician
Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 4 months of Contract with (temp-to-hire)
Shift: Mon - Fri 11am - 7:30pm
Pay Rate: $18.00/hr. on W2
Job Description
Responsible for supporting daily operations within the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Ensures accurate, timely handling and processing of laboratory specimens while maintaining compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform specimen processing tasks including pre-sort, data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, and imaging
- Accurately enter data (minimum 6,000 keystrokes per hour) with strong attention to detail
- Transport and deliver processed specimens to appropriate laboratory departments
- Maintain compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements
- Adapt to frequent changes in test orders and processing guidelines
- Ensure proper handling of biohazard materials while following all safety protocols
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
- Meet productivity, quality, and turnaround time standards
Work Environment & Requirements:
- Fast-paced, high-volume production setting
- Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to strict safety practices required
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Basic computer skills and data entry experience required
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing procedures and demands
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience in a hospital or production environment
