Schedule

5x8 Shifts Available:
- 4:30 AM 1:00 PM
- 12:30 PM 8:30 PM (priority shift)

3x12 Shift:
- 4:30 AM 5:00 PM

Weekend Requirement:
- 3 Saturday shifts per 6-week period
- Clinic closed on Sundays
- On-Call: Not required (may be required in acute settings)
General Summary
Under the supervision of nursing staff, the Dialysis Technician is responsible for monitoring and providing direct care to patients undergoing hemodialysis. This role involves continuous patient observation, effective communication with the care team, and active participation in an interdisciplinary environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor patients during dialysis and communicate updates to appropriate team members
- Provide direct patient care under nursing supervision
- Respond to emergency situations as needed
- Reinforce patient education and care instructions
- Document patient care, observations, and incidents (e.g., flow sheets, AMA forms, incident reports)
- Coordinate with internal departments and external service providers
- Follow unit-specific operational procedures (e.g., schedules, breaks, call-ins)
- Maintain professionalism, hygiene, and proper attire (ID badge, lab coat, etc.)
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity
- Carry out physician orders within Product of role
- Adhere to infection control policies (e.g., hand hygiene, PPE usage)
- Assist in minimizing waste within the unit
- Support dialysis therapy adjustments within Product of practice
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Perform technical tasks such as cannulation, machine setup, and disinfection
- Perform blood draws and other assigned clinical tasks
- Serve as a patient resource and support problem-solving for care-related concerns
Clinical Duties (Under Medical Director Delegation & Nursing Supervision)
- Administer normal saline via extracorporeal system
- Administer 2% xylocaine intradermally (if ordered)
- Administer anticoagulants (heparin/saline) as prescribed
- Instill anticoagulants into catheter ports post-dialysis per physician orders
- Ensure catheter fill volumes are accurate per policy
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Associates Degree in Science (preferred)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of clinical dialysis technician experience (required)
- Previous travel experience (preferred)
Certifications
- Dialysis Clinical Technician Certification (required)
- Must be obtained within 18 months of hire (if not already certified)
- Certification must be maintained per federal regulations
