The Psychologist Reviewer is responsible for reviewing and authorizing psychological and neuropsychological testing requests to ensure medical necessity and effectiveness. This clinical role supports mental health and substance abuse services through utilization review, provider/member engagement, and collaboration with internal clinical teams and medical directors.

Position Summary:
The Psychologist Reviewer is responsible for reviewing and authorizing psychological and neuropsychological testing requests to ensure medical necessity and effectiveness. This clinical role supports mental health and substance abuse services through utilization review, provider/member engagement, and collaboration with internal clinical teams and medical directors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review & Authorize psychological and neuropsychological testing requests.
- Conduct crisis intervention, emergency authorizations, and telephone triage.
- Provide information regarding mental health/substance abuse benefits, treatment resources, and policies.
- Collaborate with Medical Directors and internal clinical teams to resolve complex cases.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis efforts.
- Maintain and adhere to clinical documentation standards and utilization review protocols.
- Lead or support activities that promote clinical team performance and service excellence.
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral Degree in a behavioral health-related field (Ph.D. or Psy.D.).
- Independent Licensure (e.g., Psychologist, LP) in state of residence (must meet client credentialing criteria).
- 3+ years post-doctoral experience in psychiatric and/or substance abuse settings.
- Demonstrated experience conducting and evaluating psychological and neuropsychological assessments.
- Familiarity with DSM-V (or latest edition) and utilization management guidelines.
- Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Experience in inpatient behavioral health or substance abuse treatment settings.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience writing full psychological/neuropsychological evaluation reports.
- Previous involvement in utilization review or case management in a payer or MCO environment.
- Proficiency with clinical documentation systems and productivity tools.
