Position Overview:
- We are seeking a dynamic Laboratory Operations Manager to lead the laboratory team at Chilton Medical Center.
- This hands-on leadership role is fully on-site and responsible for overseeing daily operations, quality management, budgeting, and team development across multiple lab departments including Core Lab, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, and Point of Care Testing.
- This is an exciting opportunity for a senior lab professional with a strong background in hospital laboratory operations and leadership experience within a multi-hospital system.
- You’ll manage approximately 65 staff members and serve as the key liaison between technical staff, hospital administration, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all laboratory operations, including Core Lab, Blood Bank, Phlebotomy, and Point of Care.
- Ensure compliance with CAP, CLIA, and hospital standards.
- Act as the administrative resource for the on-site lab team.
- Drive performance improvements in workflow, quality, and productivity.
- Lead departmental budget planning and fiscal oversight.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and professional development for lab supervisors and staff.
- Ensure accurate scheduling, equipment maintenance, and quality control across all sections.
- Act as point-of-contact for operational issues, resolving concerns through coordination with pathologists, directors, and staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings and implement communication strategies for effective team engagement.
- Collaborate with senior leadership (C-suite) on strategic goals and long-term planning.
Qualifications:
- ASCP certification (or equivalent) – Required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a physical, chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science.
- Meets current CAP requirements for a laboratory supervisor.
- Minimum of 6 years of clinical laboratory experience, including 3+ years in a supervisory/leadership role.
- Experience in high-complexity testing within a CLIA/CAP-accredited environment.
- Prior experience as an Administrative Lab Director in a hospital setting, ideally within a multi-hospital system.
- Strong experience managing large departmental budgets.
- Proven C-suite collaboration experience.
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA) – Preferred.
