Job Summary:
- The Intake I (IQA) Associate is responsible for handling high-volume inbound calls from members, providers, and other stakeholders, providing professional phone assistance through the criteria-based prior authorization process.
- The role includes accurate and timely documentation of all requests, transferring clinical questions and judgment calls to nurses or pharmacists, and assisting with additional tasks such as outbound calls, responding to mailbox inquiries, and other duties assigned by leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle inbound calls (high volume) from members, providers, and other stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Provide assistance in the prior authorization process by gathering required information and following established criteria.
- Accurately document requests in a timely and complete manner.
- Transfer all clinical questions and judgment calls to the appropriate nurse or pharmacist.
- Support with outbound calls and monitor/respond to inquiries in designated mailboxes.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the leadership team.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- Proficiency in computer systems and ability to navigate in a Windows-based environment.
- Ability to follow directions and adapt quickly to changes in a dynamic work environment.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and demonstrated urgency in completing tasks.
- Professional phone presence and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and understand pharmacy/medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret business correspondence, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Strong telephone and customer service skills.
- Consistent ability to meet quality and productivity standards.
- Confidence in learning complex material and intellectual curiosity to ensure deep business understanding.
- Basic mathematical skills and ability to solve practical problems in standardized situations.
Experience:
- Required: 0–3 years of related experience (customer service, prior authorization, or data entry).
- Preferred: Healthcare industry, call center experience (minimum 6 months), remote work experience (minimum 6 months).
