Job Title: Pre-Analytical Assistant I – 3rd Shift
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 9+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Tuesday – Thursday | 12:00 AM – 8:30 AM
Position Overview
The Pre-Analytical Assistant I provides general support within the Technical Operations Department, ensuring accurate and timely handling, processing, and movement of laboratory specimens. This role plays a critical part in maintaining specimen integrity and supporting overall laboratory operations while adhering to quality, safety, and compliance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform manual specimen processing functions including:
- Sorting and racking
- Specimen pickup and delivery to the laboratory
- Specimen storage (may include training on archive mode sorter operation)
- Centrifugation
- Aliquoting
- Learn and understand Pre-Analytical Assistant job duties and how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing functions work together to impact testing quality and results.
- Identify and resolve specimen issues such as incorrect specimen type, missing information, or handling discrepancies; escalate issues as needed for timely resolution.
- Follow compliance guidelines related to test ordering, specimen handling, and processing, which may change daily.
- Research test order information using translation tables, laboratory systems, and the directory of services.
- Meet established quality and production standards within six (6) months of completing training.
- Complete required documentation accurately, legibly, and within assigned timelines.
- Report to work on time and adhere to attendance policies; assist with departmental needs during coworker absences.
- Learn additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to support progression to advanced levels.
- Maintain a clean, organized workstation in line with 5S workplace standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work in a biohazard laboratory environment while complying with all safety and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver large carts or specimen racks.
- Flexibility to support staffing needs including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime as required.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Medical background preferred, including familiarity with clinical laboratory medical terminology
- Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment preferred
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems preferred
