Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Chantilly, VA
Job Duration: 3+ Months with possible extension.
Shift: Wed to Sun: 7:00 PM - 03:30 AM EST
Position Summary:
The SPT I is responsible for providing essential support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work confidently in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. Responsibilities include specimen receipt, data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging, and delivery of processed specimens to the lab.
This is a critical quality role that impacts customer satisfaction and requires adaptability, flexibility, and a solid understanding of compliance regulations related to test orders.

Work Environment:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Typing/Data Entry: Minimum 6,000 keystrokes per hour
Computer Skills: Basic understanding of computer systems
Preferred Qualifications:

Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all specimen processing functions accurately and in a timely manner, including:
- A-station operations, Pre-sorting specimens, Specimen pickup and delivery, Imaging/microfilming, Centrifugation and aliquoting (serum, urine), Enter data with a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
- Learn and understand a wide range of specimen types and related test orders.
- Stay updated on evolving compliance regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Practice all biohazard safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with team members and all levels of staff.
- Meet departmental productivity and quality standards.
Work Environment:
- Production-based environment with focus on accuracy and speed.
- Work performed primarily while sitting for up to 8 hours.
- Repetitive data entry.
- Exposure to biohazardous materials (strict adherence to safety guidelines required).
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Typing/Data Entry: Minimum 6,000 keystrokes per hour
Computer Skills: Basic understanding of computer systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and lab specimen types.
- Experience in a high-volume production environment.
- Prior work involving data entry or specimen processing.
