Job Summary:
- This position is responsible for researching and screening orders, accurately and efficiently reading, interpreting, and entering prescriptions into the computer system in a timely fashion, and/or thinking through and solving escalated prescription issues.
- Technicians will direct questionable prescriptions to the prescriber for clarification, enter incomplete prescription information once clarification has been obtained, and complete appropriate described patient letter.
- Through your skills and knowledge, you will offer solutions needed to help simplify the customer health care experience.
- Areas of focus for Pharmacy Technicians may be entering patient and prescription information into our system, and faxing physicians for prescription clarification, substitutions, and formulary changes.
- To help support development and maximize workflow, you will be asked to perform other pharmacy functions as required.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Adept at reading/interpreting prescription terminology and medications.
- Rapid keyboarding skills while maintaining 100% accuracy.
- Able to meet specified production and quality standards as defined by the management team.
- Able to recognize and identify commonly used generic drugs and the route of administration of these drugs.
- General knowledge of commonly used generic drugs.
- Able to understand and interpret Latin symbols commonly used on prescriptions, medications, and able to write routine correspondence.
- Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- This includes the ability to calculate dosages and days-supply prescriptions.
- Must be flexible and Product working in a fast pace, team-oriented environment.
- Must be able to resolve and enter incomplete prescriptions after clarification is obtained.
- Complete appropriate described patient letter.
- Assist/perform other pharmacy functions and duties as required.
Education:
- Verifiable High School diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of Pharmacy Tech training program.
Experience:
- Completion of Pharmacy Tech training program.
- 3 months Pharmacy Experience.
Technical Skills:
- MUST KNOW HOW TO TYPE AND HAVE BASIC COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE.
- MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE TEXAS STATE BOARD OF PHARMACY LICENSE OR TRAINEE.
Work Environment Expectations:
- While working from home, contractor must work in a private office or enclosed space with the door shut to ensure focus and confidentiality.
- Contractor must have a distraction-free home office setup and demonstrate the ability to work independently and effectively.
