Job Title: Patient Care Technician
Job Location: Brooklyn, NY
Job Duration: 3 Months (possibility of extension)
Payrate: $25 - $27/hr. on w2

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct patient care and related support with caring and compassion.
  • Performs other related duties
  • Provides Routine Personal Care To Patients In A Timely, Safe And Effective Manner.
  • Care May Include Bathing, Brushing Teeth, Dressing Patients And Attending To All Of Their Personal Care Needs.
  • Prepares Patients For Meals, Feeds And/Or Assists With Feeding As Necessary.
  • Empties Bedpans And Collects Urine And Other Specimens.
  • Transfers Patients To And From Bed And/Or Chair Via One-Person Transfer, Two-Person Transfer, And Use Of A Hoyer Lift.
  • Takes Accurate Vital Signs Temperatures, Blood Pressures, Pulse, And Respiration.
  • Records All Necessary Information According To Policy And Procedure.
  • Assists Patients In Walking And In Transporting Patients By Means Of Wheel Chair Or Stretcher.
  • Performs ROM Using Proper Technique.
  • For point of care testing, checks the manufacturer's expiration dates of reagent strips prior to performing quality assurance testing of glucometers.
Education, Experience and Certifications/ License:
  • Certificate from an approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program with EKG and phlebotomy skills required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) or equivalent certification required.
  • Able to read and perform intermediate math and reading computations.
  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Experience working in Psychiatry.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort. Y
  • Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch. Y
  • Ability to read, write and interpret documents. Y
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions. Y
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time at required patient bedside and/or procedural areas. Y
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers. Y
  • May be exposed to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards. N
  • May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials. N
  • May be required to operate and clean equipment. N
  • May be required to work both indoor/outdoor under extreme temperatures. N
  • May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances Y
  • May be required to handle/ assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds/procedure stations Y
  • May be required to operate heavy vehicles N
  • Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work. Y
  • Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. Y
  • Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but potential for exposure. N

  • Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or fist aid. N
Schedule Notes:    
  • 5x8 3 Mon-Fri - Night workers needed 5 Mon-Fri - Evening workers needed Weekends only Shift for nights and Evenings Experience working in Psychiatry for all shift needed.
  • Shift Hours:  Evening shift, Night shift, and a Weekends ONLY shift.
