Job Summary
Surgical technologists work under the supervision and delegatory authority of a surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive and non-invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists are experts in the theory and application of the principles of asepsis and sterile technique to combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation and tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
Essential Functions
- Prepares and anticipates instrumentation, equipment, and supplies for usage during the procedure.
- Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure.
- Performs instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator.
- Participates in procedure final verification and during the briefing process.
- Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field.
- Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure.
- Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
- Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate
- Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization, when assigned.
- Assists other members of the team with cleaning the operating room to facilitate turn overs.
- Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
- Assists in the development of a proper learning environment in relation to orientation and education of personnel and students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required High School DiplomaPreferred Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.Required Prior training required by a hospital, Surgical Technology, or military program that meets the knowledge, skill, and ability required to perform the role.Preferred Membership to the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
1 year of relevant experience Minimum of one-year experience is preferred for all roles. Preferred

-If a Service Provider or Contingent Worker fails to take action required for accurate invoicing within 45 days following the end of a pay cycle in which services were provided, then Client shall not be obligated to make payment to Service Provider for those services.
Examples of action: If staff provided services ending the week Sep 3, 2023 and Service Provider does not submit accurate timesheets no later Oct 18, 2023, Client shall not be obligated to pay for the service provided during that timeframe.
-Supplier must take system action to implement agreed upon rate changes prior to the week the change becomes effective.
-It is highly recommended that timesheet reconciliation and issue inquiry/correction is performed by the supplier prior to the 45 days.
-No other forms of invoicing are accepted outside of our timesheet approval process.
