Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist - Traveler
Location: Irving, TX, 75063
Duration: 3 - 4 Months 
Shift: 3pm-11:30pm

 
Job Responsibilities


  1. Follow all laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.

  2. Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are analyzed exactly as patient specimens.

  3. Perform specimen analysis using approved testing procedures (per department SOPs).

  4. Review, verify, and release test results.

  5. Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all safety regulations.

  6. Adhere to quality control (QC) policies and document all QC activities, calibrations, and maintenance.

  7. Follow established procedures when test systems fall outside acceptable performance ranges.

  8. Identify issues affecting test performance or reporting and resolve them or notify senior staff.

  9. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance standards.

  10. Report STAT and critical results according to department procedures.

  11. Respond to customer or internal laboratory inquiries when required.

  12. Maintain complete and accurate onsite testing records.

  13. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

  14. Ensure reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received, expiration, and open dates.

  15. Review and train on new or updated procedures.

  16. Attend monthly department meetings and required trainings.

  17. Participate in safety training; know the location and use of all safety equipment and manuals.

  18. Participate in regulatory or government inspections as needed.

  19. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.




Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of basic laboratory testing methods.

  • Proficiency with computers and ability to work within multiple laboratory information systems (LIS).

  • Knowledge of QC (Quality Control) and QA (Quality Assurance).

  • Broad understanding of all laboratory areas.

  • Ability to prioritize work and multitask effectively.

  • Ability to interact professionally with other departments and clients.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality.




Education Requirements

  • Preferred: BS in Medical Technology.

  • Acceptable:

    • BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology

    • Associate degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology

    • Previously qualified Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (March 14, 1990)

  • Foreign-educated candidates: Must provide a credential evaluation from IERF.

  • U.S.-educated candidates: Must provide an official transcript.

  • Certification: MT or MLT certification (ASCP or AMT) preferred or eligibility required.




Work Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in high-complexity testing preferred.

  • Mandatory 1 year of high-complexity testing experience for candidates with BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology.

  • National and state licensure as required.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Ability to interact cross-departmentally.

  • Client interaction may be required; must demonstrate strong customer service skills.

  • Must maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
