Specimen Technician
Location: San Juan Capistrano
Duration: 3-4 Months (possibility of extension)
Shift: Wednesday – Sunday – 5pm – 1:30am
Pay rate: $23/hr. on w2
Position Overview
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role requires strong data entry skills and the ability to work accurately, efficiently, and confidently in a fast-paced production environment. The SPT I is essential to maintaining quality and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities

Perform general specimen processing tasks, which may include:

A-station functions
-
Presort
-
Pickup and delivery of processed specimens

Imaging/microfilming
-
Centrifugation
-
Aliquoting
-

Enter data with accuracy and speed (minimum 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).

Maintain strong knowledge of specimen types related to client test orders.

Understand and adapt to compliance regulations that may change daily.

Work efficiently to meet productivity, quality, and departmental completion standards.

Practice good safety habits in a biohazard environment.

Communicate effectively with staff at all levels.

Keep work area neat, clean, and organized.

Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to frequent changes and varying customer demands.

Foster a positive work environment through strong interpersonal skills.
Work Environment & Schedule

Fast-paced, production-oriented department.
-
Majority of work performed on the night shift.

Weekends, holidays, on-call rotations, and overtime may be required depending on staffing needs.

Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
Qualifications
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge & Skills
-
Basic computer knowledge required.

Preferred: Familiarity with laboratory testing or specimen processing.

Ability to work quickly and accurately in a production setting.
Experience
-
No experience required—training provided.

Preferred:
-
Previous clinical laboratory or hospital laboratory experience.

Medical background and knowledge of medical terminology.

Experience in a production environment.

Additional Details

Group interviews held every Tuesday between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM.
