Job Description
Job Title: Specimen Technician I – 3rd Shift
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday | 9:00 PM – 5:30 AM
Position Summary
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced production laboratory environment. This role is data-entry intensive and critical to maintaining quality, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. The SPT I must demonstrate strong organizational skills, flexibility, and the ability to adapt to frequent procedural and compliance updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general specimen processing support functions, including but not limited to:
- A-station processing
- Pre-sort activities
- Pickup and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory locations
- Imaging and microfilming
- Centrifugation and specimen aliquoting
- Accurately enter high volumes of data, meeting productivity standards of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Ensure all tasks are completed with confidence, accuracy, and within established turnaround times
- Learn and understand specimen types associated with client-ordered tests
- Maintain compliance with test-ordering regulations and adapt to frequent updates
- Work effectively in a biohazard environment while practicing proper safety procedures
- Communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of laboratory staff
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate changing daily priorities and customer demands
- Support department productivity and quality standards in a production-driven environment
Work Schedule & Flexibility
- Primarily assigned to night shift
- Must be available for weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and overtime based on staffing needs

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
Required Knowledge
- Basic computer skills
- Data entry proficiency
- Preferred knowledge of laboratory testing and/or specimen processing
Experience
- No prior experience required
- Previous laboratory or specimen processing experience preferred
- Medical background with knowledge of clinical laboratory terminology preferred
- Prior hospital laboratory experience is a plus
- Experience in a production or high-volume environment preferred
