Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) Lead
Job Title: Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) Lead
Location: San Marcos, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
On-Call: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM (with 30-minute onsite response time)
Work Type: Full-Time
Position Summary:
The CVT Lead is responsible for overseeing the quality of care delivered by cardiovascular technologists in the cardiac catheterization lab. This position plans, coordinates, and directs the work of CVTs while performing standard and advanced cardiovascular diagnostic procedures. The CVT Lead works closely with cardiologists to meet the specific clinical needs of the catheterization lab.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily activities of all cardiovascular technologists.
- Assist in developing and implementing clinical policies and procedures related to cardiac catheterization.
- Manage daily supply and charge reconciliation; maintain inventory at appropriate par levels.
- Ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal policies, regulations, and standards.
- Prepare the cath lab, including patient paperwork and supplies, ensuring accurate and complete patient information.
- Provide patient education and support, explaining procedures and maintaining dignity, confidentiality, and comfort.
- Assist physicians by setting up sterile fields, passing instruments, catheters, and contrast media without breaking sterility.
- Maintain and troubleshoot lab equipment and instruments, ensuring proper cleaning and functionality.
- Verify patient identity, procedural orders, consent forms, and perform “Time Out” procedures alongside nursing staff.
- Operate electronic monitoring equipment for EKG and hemodynamic data collection during procedures.
- Competently use angiographic equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic studies.
- Schedule patients and coordinate resources to ensure readiness for procedures, including availability of prior films.
- Function as scrub technician during pacemaker/defibrillator implantation, diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral procedures, and interventional radiology procedures.
- Demonstrate competence in patient care, including emergency response, tailored to the specific needs of the patient population.
- Adapt care methods to meet unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, and developmental patient needs.
- Participate in on-call rotation and respond onsite within 30 minutes as required.
- Work overtime with short notice as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate of an approved School of Radiological Sciences, Allied Health Science degree, or accredited Cardiovascular Technologist Associate degree program.
- Minimum of 3 years experience with cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Previous supervisory or lead experience in a cardiac cath lab preferred.
- Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT) license via Texas Medical Board (TMB) and ARRT certification (for Radiological Technologist graduates).
- Registry from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (RCIS or RCES) (for Cardiovascular Technologist graduates).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (AHA).
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications (AHA).
