RESPIRATORY THERAPIST - NIGHTS

Position Summary

Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, ranging in age from neonate to elderly, under supervision of Physician and by prescription.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

1. Education: Graduate from AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
2. License/Certifications: State Respiratory license in Respiratory Care, RRT or CRRT required. RQI BLS & ACLS Certification within first 30 days of employment
3. Experience: N/A

Customer Service

1. Provides exceptional customer service to all internal and external customers, smiling and greeting customers upon contact and responding with respect and caring

Patient Care

1. Reads prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment such as type and duration of therapy, and medication and dosages
2. Determines most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with Physician's orders
3. Sets up and operates devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators
4. Communicates the plan of care effectively to the patient, family, physician, nursing staff and others while maintaining a team focus
5. Operates equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients
6. Monitors patient's physiological responses to therapy such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes
7. Performs bronchi pulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises
8. Performs pulmonary function tests to be used by Physician in diagnosis of case
9. Observes equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.
10. Consults with Physician in event of adverse reactions.
11. Strives to provide optimal care to all patients through effective communication and teamwork

Operations/Other

1. Maintains patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
2. Demonstrates respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel
3. Performs diagnostic testing using transcutaneous oxygen measurements and maintains and calibrates TCM equipment
4. Operates and calibrates Carbon Monoxide analyzer
5. Orders repairs when needed
6. Meets the department needs including covering nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
7. Assist in other modalities when needed

May perform other duties as assigned.
