Job Location: Pompano Beach, FL
Job Duration: 2+ Months (Temp to Hire/ Possible Extension)
Available Shifts: Tue to Fri A) 8:00 PM - 4:30 AM, B) 10:00 PM - 8:30 AM, C) 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM, D) 3:00 AM - 1:30 PM
Job Summary:
The Histotechnician III performs both routine and advanced histological procedures to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic evaluation by pathologists. This role requires proficiency in all duties of Histotechnician I and II levels, with additional responsibilities involving special stains, immunohistochemistry (IHC), training, and compliance monitoring.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Tissue Processing & Slide Preparation:

Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.

Process specimens according to standard procedures and protocols.

Embed processed tissue in paraffin.
-
Perform microtomy on paraffin-embedded tissue.
-
Prepare and stain slides using routine Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) procedures.

Coverslip stained slides manually or with automated equipment.
Special Stains & Immunohistochemistry (IHC):

Prepare solutions and reagents for special stains.

Obtain and validate tissue and control materials used in special stain procedures.

Perform all special stain procedures accurately and efficiently.

May prepare reagents and controls for IHC.

May perform IHC testing following established protocols.
Quality Control & Compliance:

Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all quality control activities.

Document remedial actions such as equipment repairs or repeated testing.

Ensure all work is compliant with CLIA, CAP, and all local/federal regulations.

Maintain clean and well-organized workspaces in accordance with corporate safety and quality standards.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment.

Troubleshoot and resolve minor equipment malfunctions.
Training & Leadership:
-
Provide training and guidance to Histotechnicians I & II, students, and lab aides.

Assist in maintaining workflow efficiency and high-quality standards in the laboratory.
Administrative & Miscellaneous:
-
File finished blocks and slides accurately.

Handle paperwork related to accessioning and reporting.

Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications:
-
Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) preferred.
-
Certification: ASCP HT (Histotechnician) required.
-
Experience: Previous histotech experience required, including experience with special stains and IHC preferred.

Skills: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, and solid understanding of laboratory safety and regulatory compliance.
