Job Title: Pre-Analytical Assistant I
Location: Tampa, FL
Duration: 3+ Months (with possibility of extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 1:00 AM – 9:30 AM
Basic Purpose:
The Pre-Analytical Assistant I provides essential support within the Technical Operations Department, ensuring accurate and timely handling of clinical specimens. This role is critical to maintaining the integrity of laboratory operations and supporting high-quality patient testing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform manual tasks including sorting, racking, centrifugation, aliquoting, and specimen delivery/storage.
- Identify and resolve issues related to specimen types, missing information, and compliance with test ordering protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation and meet production standards within 6 months of training.
- Support departmental goals by being available for weekend, holiday, on-call, and overtime shifts as needed.
- Learn and adapt to additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing.
- Ensure compliance with safety and biohazard protocols, including wearing protective gear when handling specimens.
Job Accountabilities:
- Develop a strong understanding of how Tech Ops and Specimen Processing functions interconnect.
- Demonstrate proficiency in handling and processing specimens with accuracy and timeliness.
- Understand and apply compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Maintain high standards of documentation and reporting.
- Exhibit reliability in attendance and punctuality.
- Contribute to a positive team environment and support coworkers during absences.
- Adapt to changing procedures and pursue continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical background preferred (including familiarity with medical terminology).
- Previous experience in a production or laboratory environment is a plus.
- Basic data entry and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver specimen carts/racks.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both spoken and written English).
- Familiarity with mainframe computer systems preferred.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Fast-paced, high-volume production setting with repetitive tasks.
- Must have reliable transportation (rideshare/bus not considered reliable).
- Strict adherence to attendance and punctuality policies.
- Must be able to work the full scheduled shift consistently.
- Will be required to wear lab coat, mask, goggles, gloves, and other protective gear when handling specimens.
